Larry Jones became a lawyer because his daughter Wendy had severe intellectual disabilities. For a quarter century, he has used the Americans with Disabilities Act and its predecessor statute to promote the integration and equal treatment of people with severe disabilities in our society. In 1984 his efforts on behalf of persons with intellectual disabilities were recognized when he was chosen national Volunteer of the Year by The Arc of the United States. Larry has a Ph.D. in Ethics and Society from the Divinity School of the University of Chicago (1975) and a J.D. from the University of Washington (1989). Larry is the author of

Christy Ibrahim's main areas of practice are guardianship, Social Security disability, and special education law. She obtained her J.D. from the University of Washington in 1998. She has an older brother with Down Syndrome and a mother who is a full-time advocate for parents of children with developmental disabilities. She teaches Disability Law at the University of Washington School of Law, and is a member of the Disability Studies committee at the University of Washington. Christy is the editor of An Anthology of Disability Literature (2011), available on Amazon.com. Melanie Shaffer received a B.A. in Philosophy (summa cum laude) from Santa Clara University in 1998. She obtained her J.D. (summa cum laude) from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2006. She is a member of the Order of the Coif. A law school course sparked Melanie’s interest in disability law. After internships in disability law, Melanie joined our firm as an Associate Attorney in 2009. Jeanette Stengel was hired in May 2006. She worked as a legal assistant at Thompson & Howle for two years. She has worked with persons with disabilities as both a legal assistant and a care provider. Shawna Julia has been a legal assistant at the firm since 2007. She frequently deals with families while they are preparing periodic guardianship reports to courts throughout Washington.
